Bah! Authy discontinues their desktop app :(
I used to love Authy. USED TO.
...until today when I saw this announcement:
Since I will never abandon Linux, it's time to say goodbye to Authy.
There aren't many options that support both Linux and Android so here's my short list:
- AuthPass (feels a bit unpolished)
- Ente Auth (Linux AppImage portable app is broken at the moment, but the *.deb/*.rpm works great)
- Locker (free up to 3 devices)
- Bitwarden (2FA requires the Premium tier which costs $10/year)
P.S. Transferring my 2FA tokens from Authy to an alternative isn't straightforward since Authy's proprietary data format doesn't allow exporting or importing from other apps so I need to go into every 2FA platform I use, disable 2FA, then re-enable 2FA to enroll with my new option.
Lame redux :( :(
Fortunately, there's a clever workaround called authy-export (just make sure to include a plus sign when entering your country code even though the prompt says digits only; otherwise, you'll get a "context deadline exceeded" error).
