No, Google, you can't keep my email


Every now and then Google launches a scare tactic to get me to switch from POP3 to IMAP.  Since Thunderbird supports OAuth2, Google is very persistent in pushing you to enable it.  Although OAuth2 is technically better than a TLS password in some respects, I've noted before that as long as you have a strong password you're safely protected.  So what do you gain from POP3?  Privacy.  (If you like Google reading your mail and sending you targeted ads, by all means embrace IMAP.)
