Visual Studio Code - a surprising win for Microsoft
Microsoft doesn't have a positive history in regards to the open source community but in recent years they've taken large (and surprising) strides in embracing it, including support for the Linux kernel. In addition to they're popular TypeScript solution, Visual Studio Code has emerged as an unexpected win for Microsoft. Breaking out of their .NET niche market, they've managed to gain support and respect from the broader open source community. I've been using it for a while and I'm impressed with it's defaults. Unlike GitHub's Atom IDE, my customization from the defaults was surprisingly small:
- One Dark Pro (theme)
- JSHint
- Prettier (in settings enable "Format On Save")
Regarding fonts, I personally like 13 px with font families:
Menlo, Monaco, 'Courier New', monospace
