Moving to GrapheneOS
My beloved Essential Phone (PH-1) battery finally died. Rest in peace, my friend. As a result, I evaluated options for my next smartphone. I eventually settled on a Pixel 8 with GrapheneOS, which has better security than LineageOS.
- Turn off Settings > Display > Adaptive brightness (doesn't seem to work right on my Pixel 8)
- Turn off Settings > Sound & vibration > [four enabled options at bottom of screen]
- Slide to far left (to disable) Settings > Sound & vibration > Vibration & haptics > Touch feedback
- Turn on developer settings (repeatedly tap Settings > About phone > Build number until notified)
- Install ai-wallpaper [images sourced from Dreampix], search, and double-tap to select desired option
- Open the App Store app on GrapheneOS and tap Google Play services, then Install (note: you'll need to tap Install multiple times for each component of Google Play services)
- In the App Store app on GrapheneOS tap Android Auto, then Install
- In the App Store app on GrapheneOS tap Markup, then Install
- Download libjni_latinimegoogle.so, then download HeliBoard and install it. In the HeliBoard Settings screen:
- Tap Advanced then at the bottom of the screen tap Load gesture typing library and choose the libjni_latinimegoogle.so file you downloaded previously.
- Tap Appearance then in the Colors and Colors (night) options, choose Darker.
- Tap Gesture Typing then disable Floating preview
- Tap Preferences then enable Emoji key
- Open the Google Play Store, sign in (or use Aurora for anonymous app installation) and install desired apps, such as Screen & Notifications Dimmer as a replacement for LineageOS' native "Wake on plug" functionality
- If you use Waze, Instagram, and/or Chase and they crash on open, go to Settings > Apps > See all apps > Chase Mobile and enable Exploit protection compatibility mode (source)
